Ford specifies 5W-30 full synthetic for the Dark Horse's flat-plane 5.0L — notably a step up in viscosity from the 5W-20 used in the cross-plane GT. The factory fill is full synthetic from the factory, and Ford's published service interval is every 7,500 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. Oil capacity with filter is 10 quarts, so budget accordingly.

Here's where it gets interesting: Ford considers the engine pre-broken-in from the factory (they run every Coyote on a dyno before it ships), so there's no strict mandatory early-change requirement. That said, a large chunk of the community — especially track-focused owners — prefers to do a first change around 500–1,000 miles to flush any assembly residue, then again after the first track session regardless of mileage. If you're planning spirited driving early on, that's a reasonable precaution.

Worth noting: the Dark Horse does have an oil life monitor that adjusts intervals based on driving conditions. If you're doing canyon runs or occasional track days it may prompt you earlier than 7,500. And if you're running on track regularly, most experienced owners drop to a 3,000–5,000 mile interval and use a quality full synthetic like Motul 8100 or Castrol Edge 5W-30.
